This original Dome Hills Douglas tartan is made from the black and grey wool from a special flock of black sheep in the North Otago high country. The tartan has been created by Black Yarns and woven by McLean of Oamaru. This very soft wool cloth is available to order as cushions, cot and stroller blankets, bed and sofa throws, all edged with blanket stitch from the same yarn. Each article will be numbered as part of a limited collection.
A bit about Black Yarns:
"Hi, I am Cindy from Black Yarns. I live in the North Otago high country on our family property. I have always lived in the hills with horses, dogs and black sheep. I started collecting black ewe lambs in 2009 and bought my first ram in 2010 whom I named Tiger Woods. He single handedly increased my flock size rapidly with twins and even some triplets. Tiger had a serious lack of respect for fences, and forbidden white ewes, hence I had 30 black sheep very quickly. My core flock, named 'The Girls', started with Ebony, Michelle, Sacha, Whoopee and Oprah. Before long I had a small but skilled group of spinners and knitters turning black wool into homespun goodies. More recently I have worked with McLean of Oamaru to create an original Dome Hills Douglas tartan."
